The feeling of Fall is upon us.

You can feel the weather starting to change. The haying season is complete and we are looking to prepare for the quick approaching winter. Shannon should be coming next week to start building a fence around a pasture for our new additions - known as “the boys” right now. We do need to come up with our own names for the fellas.
I spoke to Hans Bokelmann last evening and got some bad news. His mare that was to foal died due to the foal coming backwards. It is so sad when you lose both the mare and the foal like that. Our hearts go out to them in their lose. That is a lose of three of the Oberlander breeding heard in the last year that I know about.
The corn crop is struggling to finish and we are praying for at least a couple more weeks without a frost and then a good fall drying season. Should be a good crop for which we are eternally grateful. Now if the Lord could do something about the price of corn that would help too! I guess you can’t have it all every year! :-)

What a Summer! :-)

The summer has been full thus the web site has suffered.  Jen and I made it up to Canada to meet Hans and Heidelore Bokelmann and their beautiful Oberlanders.  Their hospitality was much appreciated.  The foals, Noz and Nadja are growing up fast and are weaned.  They enjoy hanging out with their sister Hilde now, who believes she is now in charge!  Just like our oldest daughter always was!

We just got back from Austin Texas where we picked up Saelic and Traugott, two stud colts.  We are hoping that they will be able to train and pass the performance tests, so they can improve our herd.  They are both modern type Oberlanders and it is an exciting time for Spur Acres.  We have a lot of work ahead of us, but we are hopeful.
