New Arrival to Spur Acres

Noz

After a rough winter we finally have some good news to report. Hazel had a nice little stud colt on March 23rd. We named him after his father, Necho. His name is Nosternecho – Our Necho. His barn name is Noz.

Happy New Year

It is a new year and the media has us all afraid of our own shadows.  All you have to do is go out to the barn and you find that life is the same today as it was 6 months ago.  The horses still want fed every morning and night, and Penelope our dog and cats are waiting for attention as well.  It is a great feeling to go to the barn and see some things don’t change.  None of the animals are worried about tomorrow, just today and if you are going to do your duty and fill their feed buckets.

I’m off my soap box now and really just want to take this opportunity to tell all our friends that we appreciate them and wish all of you a prosperous 2009.

Let us pray that the spring arrives with the blessings of three healthy colts!

We have not forgotten you Necho!  We found out recently that we have some frozen semen from Necho and are going to attempt to breed back all the mares with it.  We attempted to freeze his semen this past summer.  The quality wasn’t good enough for sale, but hopefully with a little luck and help from above we can get the ladies pregnant for another year.

Stay tuned; Hazel, Dirngrafin, and Netieva are starting to show and we are 4 months away from some new members of the family to arrive.  Penelope will be in heaven as she loves babies!

Happy New Year and May God Bless each of you.

Our Friend Necho Has Passed Away :-(

Necho the Patriach of the Oberlander Breed in North America.

Today our dear friend and the Patriarch of the Oberlander breed in North American passed away.  He will never be replaced in our hearts.  We can only look forward to spring and the future with his last 3 foals.  He will be sorely missed and will leave a mark on Spur Acres and our hearts as long as we live.  We are never gone until those that knew us are gone.

Winter is upon us!

Thanksgiving has past and this year has been one that has had much to be thankful for.  You realize the year is coming to a close when you put all the equipment away in the barn for the winter and make room for the horse trailer to be tucked away in the barn.  Not to far tucked away just in the hopes that some riding and driving may come your way during the winter.  The harvest is done, the ground work complete and the last bit of manure spread on the field.

A friend of ours came over yesterday and split wood.  Afterwards we had a real Bavarian Dunkle beer.  The best part was watching his face when he took his first sip of American beer after having a real beer!  I thought he was going to spit it out.

It is a good feeling to have the farm tucked away for winter and to be ready for what ever comes our way in the next few months.  After feeding horses this morning Jen and I fixed a true Bavarian breakfast together.  You fry up a ham steak in a skillet then fry eggs in the same skillet with a lid on top.  When the eggs are about done you put the ham in between the yokes.  Put the lid on, turn off the fire and let it sit for a couple of minutes to finish the eggs as you don’t flip them.  Serve them on a plate with some mashed potatoes on top.  You won’t need to eat again for the entire day!  I learned this one while in Bavaria visiting.  Momma Doll is a great cook and that was just one of the dishes she treated me too while there.

It is snowing today and since we are ready I don’t even mind!

Remember what the Christmas season is all about and the economy will not impact the joy it brings.

May God Bless you and your families.

Back from Bavaria :-)

I have returned from Bavaria and seeing family and friends. I was fortunate enough to watch our son awarded a Bronze Star Medal for service in Iraq. It was a moving experience and worth the trip in itself. God Bless every one of the young men and women serving our country in every capacity and location.

I also had the pleasure of spending time with our adopted Bavarian family. Conny, Peter, Antonia, Momma, and Papa treated me like a King as always. I got to go to a gathering of horse loving Bavarians and partake in beverage and a great meal. We talked a lot about Bavaria and horses, Oberlanders mostly, but mainly just enjoyed each others company.

As much fun as the trip was it was good to get home to my lovely wife Jennifer and to walk out to the barn and see our Bavarian friends in the barn. Jen took such good care of them that they didn’t even notice I was gone. At least they didn’t say anything to me to lead me to believe any differently!

Thanksgiving is upon us and I would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. We have much to be thankful for and hope that you take a moment to give thanks for all you have. We, Jen and our family, are truly blessed and are thankful for all we have the friendship of so many.

Heading to Germany on Monday :-)

It is with great excitement and anticipation that I am headed to Germany.  Unfortunately I am going alone, but will meet up with our son Jeremiah when I get there.  While in Germany I have the distinct pleasure of pining his Bronze Star on his chest.  We are very proud of him and his service to our country.

While there I will also visit Conny Doll, Peter Lerch, and Antonia our new found friends and adopted Bavarian family.  Of Course I will also get to see momma and papa Doll.  That is almost as exciting as going to see Miah.  Oh yeah and we will have to taste test some Bavarian beers!

Peter Schauer of Boonville MO visits Spur Acres

It was great to welcome Peter and his friend Lois (sp?) to our home.  Peter owns one of the original mares that was imported from Germany (Obi).  We spent several hours talking about Oberlanders and horses in general.  Peter it was great to meet you and we hope that when you come back through the area you stop back and we can go on the carriage ride we spoke about.

Welcome to Spur Acres
